I’ve been using Waves plug-ins for years, they’re a big part of every project I do. I don’t have to spend a lot of energy figuring out how to solve small things in a mix, so I have a lot more energy to use on the creative aspects.
DeEsser might be the plug-in I use the most; it’s so quick to pop it on and fix the problem. I use it on vocals all the time, but I also use it on overheads if there’s cymbal that’s really harsh, and on guitars ALL the time when they’re too noisy.
I do tons of parallel compression—that’s ALL I do — and H-Comp does a really good job of it. I love the release time tied to the tempo and the punch control is very cool.
I really like the sound of H-Delay. There’s a lot going on “under the hood”—and the LoFi function is very interesting.
With SuperTap, I can do anything I want with the delays—separate pan and feedback and all of that.
Waves products have quite simply made my work better, and my life easier. In my long and varied career, they’ve been a mainstay of my audio palette.
I’ve honestly heard nothing comparable that surpasses the warmth of the Renaissance Compressor.
I use Renaissance EQ, C4,and Q10 pretty much daily, to stitch and match vocal sounds making them blend seamlessly, even though they’ve been recorded on different days and with different mics.
Specialized plug-ins like Doppler and Enigma are perfect for a quick sonic u-turn.
It almost goes without saying: The L1 and L2 Ultramaximizers are industry standards at this point.
